Of Kings and Cowhands
This musical comedy was produced in the summer of 2014 at Southern Christian Home in Morrilton, Arkansas. A Western adaptation of Gilbert & Sullivan’s, The Gondoliers, the drama was downright hilarious. Like, rolling-on-the-floor-laughing hilarious. Featuring another original musical score by Jordan Brazeal, Of Kings and Cowhands followed the topsy-turvy lives of two cowhands-turned-kings.
Plot Synopsis
Joe and Monty Piazza are just two unassuming, regular ole cowhands, working the ropes and trying to find love at Royal-T Ranch out West. Their world turns upside down when Stanley Standridge, Esquire, and family come a-traipsing along, looking for the husband of their beautiful daughter, Cassie. Unbeknownst to Joe and Monty, one of them had been married in infancy to Cassie, and is the heir to the island kingdom of Morania. To slightly complicate things, nobody knows which brother married her, and to really complicate things, both Joe and Monty have already joined in holy matrimony to the loves of their lives, Tess and Johnette, only hours before the Standridges arrive. To tangle the love knot even more, Cassie herself is in love with her father’s apprentice, Louis. As you can imagine, trying to untangle this twisted mess results in loads of knee-slapping comedy. In the end, though, everybody ends up happily satisfied, and Joe and Monty realize “There ain’t no life like a cowhand’s life!”
